When it comes to waste, many people aren’t aware of how long everyday items take to decompose. Improper disposal can lead to lasting environmental damage, affecting not just the animals on land but also polluting water sources and the overall health of our planet.

Did you know that relevant data show some types of waste we encounter on the street every day can take anywhere from a few decades to several hundred years to decompose? Tin cans, for example, take around 50 years, plastic bottles up to 450 years, cigarette butts 1 to 5 years, (though the filters may take up to 10 years), glass bottles over 1 million years—in fact, they essentially never decompose in nature.

That is why we made our contribution to a cleaner Sarajevo this year too, as part of the World Cleanup Day. Early on the morning of Saturday, September 21, several employees of VE Ivovik joined the volunteers of the Let's Do It! project to clean our favorite place in the city - Wilson promenade.

The staff of VE Ivovik is proud to participate in volunteer activities, hoping to inspire more citizens to contribute to efforts that benefit society and set an example for younger generations. Recently, we also encouraged our employees to recycle plastic and glass packaging, using recycling machines installed at various locations across Sarajevo. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and in just a few weeks, we have successfully recycled hundreds of cans and plastic bottles.
